One Church, Many Locations, Serving Brisbane

Brisbane Lord Mayor's Support

The campaign has been given full support from Brisbane Lord Mayor Campbell Newman who said "Yes We Care" was a significant commitment from Brisbane churches to demonstrate generosity to the city. "Yes We Care" is a great initiative that is sure to touch people's lives and I would like to see it grow stronger each year so that the quality of living for people in Brisbane, from all walks of life, is improved.

The Potential

Many of you are already active in your communities, through this campaign we wish to get more congregation members, more community groups and more unsaved friends and family members involved as we show them that the church can walk the talk. That church is not just a building. It is about taking the church out and into the community.

Just imagine how different Brisbane would be if somebody mowed your lawn for you, cleaned those hard to reach areas or simply enjoyed a cuppa and a laugh with you. Sometimes, despite our best efforts we find that we all need help from time to time, whether it is a financial crisis, physical illness or just loneliness.

person

In the first year 600 volunteers served in more than 300 homes. In 2007, we targeted 600 homes. This year, 2008, we hope to touch 1,000 households across Brisbane making a difference and bringing a smile to their day! This has given many volunteers the opportunity to form ongoing relationships in their community and I know of many volunteers that still continue to visit and have a cuppa, who take people shopping and who do gardening for those who would otherwise be unable. Not only does this give hope to the recipient, but this also gives the volunteers a sense of joy and purpose.

You can be involved

Any church, regardless of size can be involved. Any individual can be involved. The homes we will be serving will be provided by council and word-of-mouth contacts. We have zone coordinators that are ready and willing to work with you to plan your involvement. We will also provide you with all the resources needed to make this event a success.

This is such a great opportunity to get involved. Please join us to make Brisbane a better place and ultimately expand the Kingdom.

The Greater Brisbane Region

Even though the region being covered is in the Brisbane BCC region and the Brisbane City Council is working with us through the Lord Mayor, the vision is for the Greater Brisbane Region. So, if your church is in the Redcliffe, Pine Rivers, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands and even the Beaudesert Shire areas, why not contact the Briznet office and talk with the BrizNet coordinator, Ps Ben F Gray to discuss how to extend the impact to these regions. The Lord Mayors of these shires may also be open to working with the churches to bless the people of the Greater Brisbane Region.
